Learn the ABCs of Anxiety

All types of anxiety can be broken down into Alarm (emotions and physical sensations), Beliefs and bothersome thoughts, and Coping strategies and behaviors …the ABC’s of Anxiety.  The myAnxietyApp program is an online tool that will help you to understand how your anxiety works and how to break the vicious cycle of the ABCs of anxiety.

  • myAnxietyApp is based on research-proven principals from a treatment program called “CALM” that was created by UCLA faculty and investigated by researchers from four collaborating universities – The University of Washington, UCSD, The University of Arkansas, and UCLA.

  • The CALM project was sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the results of the study have been published in multiple academic journal articles including a recent paper in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). This is important because it means that the CALM treatments for anxiety are based on evidence from large scientific studies not just one person’s ideas or experience

The CALM techniques for treating anxiety turned out to be so effective that the doctors of the CALM study have created a training program for therapists to learn these methods. Therapists interested in this training may visit the CHAMMP website to learn more about training in the program.
